Emerald Legacy isn’t intended to be an end in itself, but rather the final installment in a trilogy of planned projects by TheSmithPlays, which will be headed by Emerald Legacy. It is made using the Pokémon Emerald Disassembly made by the Pret team. This game is about taking a classic game that many people think of as a classic, and making it a more enjoyable, but nostalgic experience, 20+ years later. If you actually take the time to examine the game of Emerald with a lens, there is a wealth of problems. A terrible Pokémon Garden, weird team building, a good story idea that was poorly acted out, confusing decisions on the rivals, and one of the worst E4s. All of these problems are dealt with in this game with memorable dex additions, fantastic gym leader ace choices, abilities, no more stat xp, Battle Frontier, original ideas to the series, and a solid game. The Legacy Project is designed to do what’s good in a game and make that better, and in doing so, elevate the bad to the same standard.

Preserving that sense of nostalgia is an integral part of the project, and so we have to temper our changes into things that enhance the experience but don’t pull you out of the originalGenn 3 mindset. Features such as Physical/Special Split, adding moves, adding new evolutions, or adding the fairy typing are not features found in this game. But focus on the improvement of the Rival storyline, Team Magma & Aqua storyline, Tons of pokemon balancing using the tools provided to us in this generation, a solid post-game, better boss encounters during the game, better level curve, and way too much more. We are not attempting to make a new game; we are not attempting a “Kaizo” game that is totally impossible. We wanted to make a contemporary, yet retro version of Pokémon Emerald.
