Salt and Sanctuary is a video game developed and published by Ska Studios, a 2D action role-playing game. The game was released on March 15, 2016, for the PlayStation 4, with later releases for Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One,e and Nintendo Switch. It’s inspired heavily by the Souls series by Japan’s FromSoftware. The game garnered positive reviews from critics, and its graphical style and gameplay were praised. The game features 2D hand-drawn visuals, as well as gameplay mechanics similar to the Souls series. Players can have up to 600 items, and the various weapon types have unique sets of powers, such as air attack. Players can wield two-handed weapons for additional power and shields to defend and parry. Magic and ranged attacks can also be performed. It features RPG concepts like origin, class, stat growth, and many hundreds of skills from which to choose. The game also offers multiplayer and asynchronous features, such as messages that players can exchange. Multiplayer allows for co-operative and versus play, but it is local only.
